Items worth the Splurge
I think I’ve started no less than 10 articles this way, but it’s true – life is expensive. Having a pandemic doesn’t sit well for the fact we are living in the age of mass consumerism. With the constant shilling on television shows, social media, and out and about, it is hard to know what sources to trust when it comes to products that are actually worth the investment. Though I am working on another article to discuss when to save and when to splurge, I wanted to go ahead and break down my personal favorites from this year. These are items I had never tried before 2020 (except one of them) and am so glad I spent my money on them. They are high quality and I would recommend them over and over again.
What makes an item a splurge?
Buys can become a splurge for a number of reasons. Many of these reasons really depend on the person and what they value. To me, a splurge is an item that either 1) costs more than others of its kind (but for a reason) or 2) is something that will last me forever so I know it is a good investment.
My top 7 best buys of the year
These items all made an impact on me in one way or another for a positive purpose. Some were for selfish reasons and others functional.
Shop these items by clicking on the images or titles below. As always, some of these will result in a small commission being made at no additional cost to you. I appreciate you supporting my small business 🙂
Best Buy of the Year #1
I mentioned this in my Beauty Gift Guide, but my Slip pillow case has been a game changer for my hair. As someone who has always had frizzy hair, I have always had issues getting it to behave. This pillowcase has helped significantly with the frizz and with my hair’s texture overall. I also adore my Slip Silk Mask, especially for napping and traveling. When I had eyelash extensions, they extended the length of time I could go between appointments. If you have extensions or are trying to grow your own personal lashes, I would recommend this purchase as well.
Best Buy of the Year #2
I also mentioned this in my Beauty gift guide, and have on my Instagram stories quite often. This device is a game changer. It sends microcurrent through your muscles, contouring, tightening and sculpting.
Since starting to use it, I can completely see a difference in my fine lines. My smile lines around my eyes are basically nonexistent! It is an investment for sure, but one worth your while.
Best Buy of the Year #3
Shelter in place really would have not gone well if I didn’t have this desk. Background story: when Harry and I moved into our apartment, he announced he needed to have a huge, “L” desk to fit all of my monitors and work necessities. I know nothing about accounting, but gladly told him he could set up in our guest room. For reference – our apartment is 2 bed 2 bath. I then needed to figure out a place to work that was not the kitchen table.
Cue: the folding desk. I did a whole article on this back in the summer, but I still don’t think I have given it enough credit. This desk has absolutely saved me. I love that it looks like a cabinet, has storage, and can “go away” whenever I need it to. It was a great investment.

Best Buy of the Year #4
The Peloton was bought out of frustration of the pandemic taking away access to my gym. It has ended up being such a blessing to have! I love riding it when I talk on the phone, watch a movie, or read a book. My pro tip: have one binge worthy show that you are only allowed to watch when you are on the bike. That always gets me going and increases my time I spend pedaling it out!
Best Buy of the Year #5
Balas are essentially weights that look like bangles. They were made popular by being on the TV show Shark Tank. I have the one pound ones and it is honestly amazing to me how much that little extra weight makes such a difference. They’re a great gift idea for anyone who loves fitness.
Best Buy of the Year #7
Aaaand finally, last but not least, my myAgenda planner has once again kept me organized and saved the day. Now, though I didn’t use it as much as I usually do (pandemic problems), I still loved how thorough and well thought out the formatting is.
