5 Ways to Style a Peony Puff Sleeve Babydoll Dress for the End of Summer

Style a Peony Puff Sleeve Babydoll Dress with me

Ah, another new segment on the blog and I am so excited for this one! Today on the blog, you are going to be styling with me a peony puff sleeve babydoll dress for the end of summer!

In this new “Style with Me” segment, I am going to be showing you how I personally styled an item, and then other ways to style it for different occasions. This gives you a glimpse into my wardrobe, shows you items I really do own and wear, and shows you how I style them (or would) for different occasions. Let’s be honest: I don’t always take pics of my outfit on things like date nights or GNOs. Sometimes I like to just log off, and that’s okay! But I also am someone who wears the same things over and over, so I want to show you how I do that without looking like a total Lizzie McGuire outfit repeater (IYKYK).

The Babydoll Mini Dress we are Styling Today

Today, we are styling this adorable peony print Free People babydoll dress. I love everything about it! Some details:

  • Peony print
  • GREAT color (also comes in a white print as well – hello brides!)
  • Puff sleeves
  • Mini dress

Where I Wore it:

The first thing I bought this dress for was a date night with a guy I had been seeing. When that event didn’t come to fruition, I decided it was only fair that I wear it multiple times over to prove it wasn’t cursed, because – yes – I believe even clothing can carry bad mojo.

First, I wore it to a sushi night for my friends’ birthdays. It was the perfect outfit for our quaint little gathering, and I had SO much fun that night (breaking the bad mojo, obviously). Then, after wearing it for a family gathering, I wore it to brunch with my sister, cousin, and her boyfriend at Restoration Hardware in Dallas. It is now one of my favorite pieces to wear just around town or to do something fun. I can’t wait to style it for the end of summer with yall today!

How we are Going to be Styling it:

How I styled it

1 - How I Styled it

How I styled this beautiful dress for sushi night (the first time I wore it).

This envelope clutch is everything for the end of summer season! I personally love carrying it as a clutch (my go to!) during the summer months. Then, for early fall, I add a strap onto it (one comes with it!) and use it as my football season bag for game day! It is just the right size that you can bring it into the stadium, and is structured enough it can hold everything you need.

I love this pearl headband whenever it is humid or I don’t feel like doing my hair. It keeps it out of my face in a classy, dainty way. Because of the way it is built, it doesn’t press behind the ears like other headbands, so you can wear it without getting a headache! Best bonus ever, in my opinion.

Just like a good lip gloss should never be underrated, neither should a spritz of fabulous perfume. Chanel Gabriele is absolutely my number 1 go-to perfume. I love the scent and the way it smells on me! It is strong without being overwhelming, and just a few puffs will always do the trick.

These huggie earrings are super light and go with everything. For a piece so high quality, I am shocked they’re only $35! My bestie gave me my silver pair (they come in gold too!) two years ago for my birthday, and they have been some of my favorites since. They’re in my ears at least a couple times a week.

I wear these Miller Leather sandals all the time – particularly spring through fall. In the south, nice leather sandals are totally worth investing in because you get so much wear out of them! I love that these are matte and go with everything. Size up if you buy – I’m an 8.5 in shoes and mine are a size 9.5.

2 - GNO

For a girls night, you’re not going to want to have to put up with much. It should be simple! You’re going to want to look cute, let your hair down, spray yourself with some fabulous perfume, and enjoy a cocktail or three with some of your fav people!

Let’s start with the earrings. These braided hoop earrings come from one of my favorite affordable brands (they’re under $20) and give off such an exquisite vibe! A good affordable hoop is key for a night out. If you lose one, no big deal! Just replace it.

In this day and age, a crossbody is necessary when going out to a bar or even a crowded restaurant. I love that this bag is simplistic, yet has all the right compartments to hold just what you need. It also has the ability to zip AND clasp at the top, minimizing your chances of having anything stolen from it while you’re out having fun! Pro tip: always bring a mini concealer – and, if you can, a mini version of your perfume – with you in your bag in case your mascara runs or you start to sweat!

Finally, let’s talk about shoes: being from Texas, I can always find a good use for owning a good western boot. Now that they are all the rage, you get to join in on the fun! These boots are so cute and are perfect for the fall season. I love them for a GNO, though, because 1) they are closed toe (no broken toenails tonight!) and 2) they are dark, so it doesn’t matter if they get spilled on. Just take a wet paper towel to them the next day and they will be good as new!

3 - Date Night

Date night is all about making yourself feel sexy and beautiful, inside and out. I always start my date night prep routine with a glass of wine, a spritz of perfume, and an upbeat playlist so I feel absolutely amazing and at ease while getting ready. Then, all I have to do is throw on my outfit, pick out some jewelry and shoes, grab my bag, and head out the door! This bag is sooo cute and such a great color for the season.

For jewelry, I love small (so you aren’t messing with them) but there – enough to catch the eye. Like these dainty constellation hoops! They’re small enough to be lightweight, but will glitter, drawing attention to your neck. Did you know that the majority of men love women’s hands? Draw attention to yours with this small, but beautiful, bracelet stack. They’ll jingle without being insane, doing all the work for you.

For shoes, I always like assessing the height of the man I’m going on a date with. If it’s someone you’ve been dating for a while – like a husband – he may not be so weird about height. That said, if it’s someone new, it’s good to be respectful about height and try not to tower over him if you can help it. I tend to gravitate towards a nice wedge for this reason – they’re comfy, and make your legs look good. These are awesome because the wedge is low and, since they are a light nude color, they can match with essentially everything.

4 - Brunch

Let’s play with some contrasts a little bit, shall we?! I love how these sunglasses and this AMAZING tote bag add a little edge to this otherwise very feminine outfit. They really balance out the sunhat and the floral print of the dress well. While we’re on the topic … how is the sunhat? It keeps the sun off of your face without being over the top. You have lots of ribbon colors to choose from online, and they will even monogram it for you!

Whenever you are doing contrasting like mentioned above (edgy and feminene together), it’s good to keep everything else basic. A neutral colored western boot pulls the outfit together by not trying super hard or being something that draws the eye in (other than for the fact they are adorable). This lipstain color and multistrand necklace are both simple and understated, completing the look without competing with its main components.

5 - Vacay

I actually have a whole article about vibrant vacation looks if you’re starting to plan for one! Click here to check it out (it’ll open in another tab so you can read it later). For now, let’s talk about this darling look we have in front of us – it’s a fav!

I love that this bag is both a straw bag (perfect for the beach) AND a backpack! It doubles two of my favorite things into one. The brand that makes it comes highly regarded, and it has great ratings! Throw some cheap flip flops and some tanning oil into it and you’ll be ready to hit the beach!

Always my go-to advice: never wear your fancy glasses anywhere there is water or sand! These sunglasses are only $15 from Amazon and look just like the Ray Ban version. They’re perfect for vacay because you won’t be upset if they get lost or broken.

This lip stain is a dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick, but at a fraction of the price! It’s the same one I recommended for brunch … It’s great for the beach because when it goes on, it stays on. Say goodbye to lipstick all over your face while laying out!

These earrings come in a set of 4 for only $9 on Amazon, so you’ll have a new pair to wear every day of vacay!
