Gingham Outfit Ideas for Spring and Summer
Gingham is one of my favorite patterns for warm weather months. It is such a classic that can be styled so many different ways and worn by all ages. Today on the blog, I am going to be sharing the history of gingham along with some beautiful gingham pieces, and wrap everything up with some gingham outfit ideas for spring through fall.
The History of Gingham
This article is called “Gingham Never Seems to Go Away” and I would agree with that statement. It’s so versatile that it can be found anywhere and, as I said above, on or near practically any type of human. The grandma holding her baby at the farmers market is dressed in a gingham maxi, while the finance guru downtown is wearing a gingham shirt while leading an important meeting. Growing up, I remember we had a red and white checkered gingham picnic blanket we would use.
Gingham was created somewhere in Asia. This article predicts Malaysia as its original location of creation, which makes sense since they were colonized by the dutch. By the 19th century, it had made its way over to the USA, where it became popular for being lightweight. In 1939, The Wizard of Oz changed gingham from a pattern that was worn by prairie girls in the garden to one that was fashionable by making it the main pattern on Dorothy, a forever television icon (in color)! Today, gingham is seen as a preppy, chic pattern that can be found everywhere.
