Styling a Houndstooth Knit Sweater Vest for Fall
It’s finally under 100 degrees here in Texas, which means I am beyond giddy to start pulling out outfits for cooler weather. Nothing makes me happier than an outfit with some serious layers. Today on the blog, we are going to be styling a houndstooth knit sweater vest for fall.
We will be covering:
- Why I chose this piece
- How I styled it
- How to style it for day to day
- How to style it for work
- How to style it for date night
Why I Chose to Style the Houndstooth Sweater Vest
I chose this piece for today because it is sleeveless, making it an amazing transition piece from the heat into the breezy fall months. It can be worn with shorts now, and then layered over an oversized poplin shirt with jeans in the winter. I love that houndstooth is a pattern that even people who gravitate towards solids can get behind. It is far from overwhelming, and gives every outfit an effortless preppy vibe. Since nudes are trending this year for the fall and winter seasons, this piece I know will be one you will wear on repeat. Did I mention the one I’m styling is under $30? How I Styled it
Like I mentioned earlier, I live in Texas. Even in the fall, the weather can take a little bit to change. This outfit can carry me until mid to late November most years, and all of the pieces are wardrobe staples for the season.
How to Style it for Day to Day
For day to day, I decided to style it in two ways that are similar in style format. Both are styled with straight leg denim jeans (see more pairs in my Fall Wardrobe Capsule!) and the sweater vest. One look is geared to look preppy, and the other is a little bit more sporty in nature. The turtleneck layered with the sweater vest is perfect for when the seasons change, and it gets a little bit cooler outside. You can totally layer this vest with a nude turtleneck as well if that is more of your vibe!
How to Style it to Wear to the Office
For work, I styled the vest with a leather knee length skirt (more of these can be found in my fall capsule wardrobe as well!) and over an oversized poplin shirt. This look is sophisticated without being stuffy. It incorporates items you can wear all season – in and out of the office – to create an updated, professional outfit. Throw on some nude heels or mules (see the roundup) and you are ready for your 9-to-5!
How to Style it for Date Night
Typically, I have a hard and fast rule about not mixing patterns in an outfit. For these shorts, though, I made an exception. The design is faint and I really think the style of them pulls the look off! I kept the purse and booties basic and neutral, and then threw in some colored earrings for some flare. The perfect look for a dinner out!
