Rough Day Cabernet Sauvignon as a Unique Bottle for your Shelf
I’m going to be honest here: the first time I ever tried Rough Day Cabernet Sauvignon was simply because I liked the label. It was cute and more exciting than some of the other basic descriptions or labels. Though that rarely (if ever) converts to a good wine, I decided to give it a shot. And it did not disappoint! It is in the perfect price range for me to not feel bad sipping a bottle on a weeknight, and I can almost always find it at my local Total Wine or at Foxtrot Market here in Dallas.
The Wine Facts
Name: Rough Day
Classification: Cabernet Sauvignon
Where: Thracian Valley
Vintage: 2016
How Much: $10-15
My Rating: 4.3 / 5
The Vino Details
Rough Day is a deep vampire red and saturated in color. It is medium in body and very well balanced. If you are new to the world of wine, I highly recommend you give it a try. The brand also has pinot and rose options at this time (yum), and just came out with a canned rose that I am dying to try!
How to Sip
I recommend sipping this bottle (and any other red that is on the more affordable end) in a hipped wine glass (like this one) or in one with a larger mouth. These will allow for the wine to breathe in the glass and optimize the flavor. When pouring the first glass, I recommend swirling the wine around a little before sipping (allowing you to taste the wine to its fullest potential- plus it makes you look like a total connoisseur). I absolutely love these large glasses (below) because they allow for this without making a mess!
The Pairings
This wine is inexpensive enough that you can sip it with a hamburger at a barbeque, but refined enough that it would also go great with a filet. I love a good versatile wine! Personally, I recommend having it with dark meat, such as ground turkey or beef.

My Rating
I would give Rough Day Cabernet a 4.3 / 5 in terms of taste and value for the bottle.
The only thing keeping Rough Day Cabernet from being the top of the charts (particularly for the price) is its shelf life. Once opened, you really do need to drink it in 2 days max, or it will go bad. Of course, the good outweighs the bad – in fact, I am impressed with a wine this affordable for not using so many harmful preservatives. Ultimately, my two suggestions would be to: 1) drink this bottle on a night when you REALLY need a drink or 2) bring a bottle to share with those you love at the end of a rough day. Enjoy!
