During the summer time, nothing is more essential to my wardrobe than a big, floppy (potentially straw) hat.
Living in Texas, the summer sun is intense. There is very rarely a day where the UV index drops below 10 before 5 PM. I love to bake out by the pool as much as the next gal, but because of my family’s history of skin cancer, I have to be very careful with how much I am being exposed.
Benefits of Hats
There are lots of reasons why you should wear a hat outside (for style and for your skin!) To name a few:
The less direct sunlight hitting your face and shoulders, the lower your chance is of getting cancer. Of course, you should still always wear sunscreen, but a sun hat is a great way to look chic while also being safe.
2 - They can completely change your look
Sun hats are as versatile as a sweater or a black tee. Throw one on and it can instantly amplify your outfit. Not to mention you 100% look more put together when wearing one. Hats give me the confidence to own any room.
3 - Sun hats can save you money
Your hair looks bad – do you wash it with your expensive products? Or maybe add some dry shampoo in there to try to joosh it? Go get it done and pay hundreds for a new highlight? Orrrrrr… why don’t we just throw the hat on and walk out the door?
You have an event and have nothing new to wear. The dress you want to wear you wore around these same people last time you were with them. What do you do? Switch up your shoes, throw on your sun hat, and let it do the talking for your entire facade.
4 - Investment Piece for the win
Versatility is the real deal when it comes to today’s style. You can wear the same straw hat you wore to the pool to dinner with your friends. That hat you wore on your last patio date night? Throw it on with shorts and a graphic tee and you’re ready for brunch! They’re worth having in every color and style. Figure out what yours is and invest!
