JLohr Cabernet Sauvignon has been my go-to bottle of wine for years. My parents drank this wine when I was younger, so it was a familiar label for me when I first started to have a glass at night living on my own. From the first sip I was hooked. Not only is it a great price, it is, in my opinion, a very mid range cab. It’s not so light that it should be classified as a pinot (hate when that happens), but it’s also not so heavy that it makes you feel fatigued. It is slightly sweeter than other cabs in its price range (you can really taste the black cherry), but not so much so that it’s a turnoff. For the money, I’d argue that it is one of the best cabs out there. It is included in my guide of Best Affordable Cabernets for a reason!

Jlohr is really had to beat for the price (to say the least). It is my favorite wine to drink with a steak at home or to sip at the end of a long day. It really does give Paso Robles a good name.

Wine Details
J Lohr Cabernet is nothing if not fruitful. I cant imagine another wine at this pricepoint ever comparing. What stands out to me at first sniff is the black current and pepper, but it really is so much more complex than that.
This cabernet tastes like pepper, blackberries, and even peppercorns, and pairs so well with a beef or bison it is crazy. Serve it on a first date and they will never know you paid less than $20 for this bottle. Fresh aromas of black currant, elderberry, lilac, pepper and charcoal lead into a rich palate of cassis, oak and charred beef, all lifted by herbs and peppercorns.
