The Chunky Knit – The chunky knit sweater has been a classic in every girl’s wardrobe since they were tiny. Growing up in Ohio, I remember my mom LOVED to stuff my sister and I into some itchy turtleneck sweaters before dropping us at Pre-K.
Times have changed, though, and now we don’t let itchy be a thing. These once dreaded wardrobe staples have now been revamped into something wonderful.
The Striped Classic – A striped sweater is a great way to add some detail into your closet, especially if you aren’t typically a “pattern” type of person. It is a classic piece that is feminine and often not appreciated enough. I know horizontal stripes get a rep for making you look “wide”. With this thin of a stripe, though, you will look no more wide than you would in a color block. By the way, did you know detailing helps thin out your frame! This is a great thing to know, especially during the months of holiday feasing 😉
The Color Block – A color blocked sweater is always in style. My personal favorites are ones that have one bright color mixed in with black, white, or grey. I feel it gives it just enough of a pop without going overboard.
How To Style Fall Sweaters
The best things about this wardrobe necessity is that 1) they can be worn year after year and 2) you don’t have to go crazy finding ways to style them. Some of my favorite ways to style a fall sweater are:
With a Skirt – Throw a cropped sweater on with a high waisted skirt or skort and hit the town!
With Jeans or Leather Leggings – I live in my leather leggings all fall (check out my article on fall staples here), and love throwing on a sweater and some booties and hitting up the town!
Over a dress – There is nothing cuter than layering a sweater over a dress to give it a whole new look and feel! I love to take my darker spring dresses and wear them as skirts. You also can tie the sweater around your waist for an equally cute fall look!
